Cultural notes

While not as well-known as other Shinto shrines, Kinzan Hongu-ji has connections to the mythology surrounding the god Benzaiten, revered for her association with wealth, beauty, and knowledge. On special occasions, visitors may participate in a ritual called 'hassaku' where they tie strings of 108 prayer tokens around a sacred tree, believed to purify their minds and bring good fortune.
