蛭子神社

Visitor tip

To make the most of your visit, arrive early to witness the 'yudofu' (boiled tofu) ceremony, which is performed daily at 11:00 AM from April to November.

Cultural notes

Fugu, or pufferfish, is believed to be a favorite food of the shrine's kami, and visitors may find it served at local restaurants near the shrine. The shrine also hosts an annual 'Tobira Matsuri' (Gate Festival) in May, which celebrates the opening of the shrine gates.

Historical note

The shrine was first established in 1600 during the Sengoku period, making it one of the oldest shrines in Akita Prefecture.
