Old County Town Fukuin Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the rice-grain deity Inari Okami, located in the heart of Kyoto's historic Gion district. Visitor tip
For an authentic experience, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and try some of the local sake available at the shrine's gift shop.
Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its rice-grain offerings, which are exchanged every year during the spring festival. Visitors can also participate in a traditional ceremony where rice grains are exchanged for good luck and prosperity.
Historical note
Founded in 869 AD as a rural shrine, it was later relocated to its current location in Gion in the late Heian period.
