大山深西神社

Located in the Japanese Alps, Great Mountain Deep West Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity Hachiman, patron of warriors and travelers. Built in 1713 during the Edo period, the shrine's architecture reflects its role as a sacred resting place for weary travelers and hunters. Visitors can explore the shrine's traditional torii gate, as well as a beautiful cedar tree believed to be over 800 years old.

Cultural notes

As a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman, Great Mountain Deep West Shrine is also known for its association with the legend of the White Horse, said to appear to pilgrims seeking protection and good fortune. During the spring equinox festival (Shunbun no Hi), locals offer prayers and offerings for a bountiful harvest.
