三柱神社

Saitama

三柱神社, located in the heart of Saitama Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the worship of three primary deities: Amaterasu Omikami, Tsukiyomi-gami, and Susanoo-no-Mikoto. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance as a site for imperial visits during the Heian period. Visitors can still see the remains of the original stone walls built during this time.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

As a shrine dedicated to the Amatsukami (heavenly deities), it is said that the three primary deities can be seen in the arrangement of its torii gates, which symbolize the harmony between heaven and earth.

Historical note

The shrine was visited by Emperor Henry of Japan in 1874, marking one of the first imperial visits to the shrine after the Meiji Restoration.
