The Eight Horses Shrine, also known as Hachi no Ōji, is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture. The shrine's main deity, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, is believed to have appeared at the site in the form of eight white horses. According to legend, the shrine was established by Emperor Seiwa in 749 CE to commemorate his sister's wedding and has since become a revered destination for locals and tourists alike.
