若宮八幡宮神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, famous for its association with the legendary Taira no Kiyomori and his daughter, Empress Toba's concubine. The shrine is also known as 'if you make a 1080 prayer beils to the god of fortune', ,and is said to bring good luck, prosperity, and fortune to those who visit.

Visitor tip
To experience good fortune at this shrine, it is recommended that visitors tie a beil with a prayer on the left-hand side of the shrine gate for 1080 days as a tradition.
Cultural notes
This shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami and Susanoo no Kami, but also enshrines various regional kami such as Hata-fūjin and Katsurahiko-no-kami. The shrine's wooden torii gate is famous for its striking vermilion color.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in the Edo period (1603-1867) by Taira no Kiyomori's daughter, but its origins date back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
