This shrine is dedicated to the kami Ryōgoku Tenman, who is said to protect travelers and fishermen. The shrine's name also references its location on the Katsura River, where local legend says Ryūgoku Tenman dwelled.
Historical note
Founded during the Edo period in 1846 as a branch shrine of the nearby Yasaka Shrine.
