Cultural notes

Inari Ōkami is revered for its association with rice and fertility. The shrine is also famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which are believed to bring good luck. During the Obon festival in August, visitors can pray for the souls of their ancestors by writing wishes on ema (small paper prayers) and tying them to the torii gates.

Historical note

The shrine was founded in the Edo period (1603-1868), with its main hall dating back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
