天沼神社

Saitama

Located in the town of Higashimatsudo, Saitama Prefecture, Tennozu Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami (spirit) of the nearby Tennozu Pond. The pond's water is said to have healing properties and is believed to be an excellent place for fishing. Visitors can enjoy strolling around the pond, having picnics, or taking part in traditional Japanese festivals.

Cultural notes

The shrine is connected to the mythology of the Japanese water spirit, ' Mizu no kami ', which is believed to reside in bodies of water. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival called 'Tennozu Matsuri' to honor the local kami and celebrate the harvest season.

Historical note

The shrine was originally built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and has been rebuilt several times due to damage from floods and fires over the centuries.
