Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its association with the legend of Princess Iratoki, who was said to have hidden her hair under an orchid bush in order to escape her betrothal. According to the myth, when she was later discovered, a flower bloomed instantly, and her hair grew back long and beautiful.
