Located in the southern part of Honshu, Kumano Jinja is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to the deity of Sanzen-no-Okami. The shrine complex includes several smaller shrines and temples, known as kumanoSanzan, which were established to honor the three kami: Kumano no Okami, Kobo Daishi, and Yasugashi no Okami. Visitors can explore the precincts of the Kumano Sanzan World Heritage site, a UNESCO-designated cultural property. The shrine is said to be visited by thousands of pilgrims each year, who come seeking blessings for their travels and good fortune.
