Located in Tsukuda Park, Inuishi Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the kami of dogs and horses. As one of the oldest shrines in Chiba Prefecture, it showcases unique architectural styles from different historical periods, including the Nara and Kamakura eras. The shrine's main hall features a tiled roof with four large wooden pillars adorned with carvings of mythical creatures.

Visitor tip
Visitors can make a wish at the shrine by throwing a small stone into the 'dog-shaped' pond, said to be inspired by the shrine's primary deity, Inu (the dog kami).
Cultural notes
Inuishi Shrine is closely associated with the myth of Inu no Okami, a powerful dog kami who was said to have protected the city of Edo from invaders. The shrine also hosts an annual spring festival called 'Gion Matsuri', which features traditional dances and games.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built during the Nara period (710-794 CE) but has undergone significant renovations throughout its history, including the introduction of the Kamakura-era architectural style.
