Ikō Hikawa Shrine

Ibaraki

Ikō Hikawa Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Ichihara, Ibaraki Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to the god of prosperity and good fortune, Hikawa Mariko, but also enshrines various other kami including Ōyamatsumi no Kami and Ame-no-Minakami no Kami. Visitors can admire the beautiful garden, traditional torii gate, and serene atmosphere of the shrine.

Visitor tip

For a more authentic experience, consider visiting during the Setsubun festival in late January or early February, when visitors toss soybeans to ward off evil spirits.

Cultural notes

Ikō Hikawa Shrine is known for its beautiful garden and traditional architecture. It is also said to be the site where the famous Japanese poet Masaoka Shiki visited in 1872.

The shrine was founded in 1642 during the Edo period.
