Cultural notes
Hinomisaki Jinja Shrine is also known for its connections to the mythology of Hachiman, who was said to have been responsible for bringing peace to the region after a devastating civil war. The shrine is also famous for its traditional festivals, including the annual Hachiman Matsuri in May.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in the Meiji period (1868-1912) after being damaged by an earthquake in 1874.
