Cultural notes

Hasetani-jinja Shrine is said to be associated with the Shinto deity Inari Okami, patron of fertility, rice, and industry. The shrine is also famous for its annual 'Forest Fire Festival' (Kakiya Matsuri), where participants wear masks and costumes to reenact a sacred ritual to purify the forest.
