Fushimi Sambo Inari-jinja Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Fushimi, Chiba Prefecture, dedicated to the worship of the Three Treasures Inari Okami and the god of agriculture, Sugawara no Michizane. The shrine complex features a traditional Japanese garden, a five-story pagoda, and numerous vermilion torii gates along its paths. Cultural notes
As an Inari shrine, it is famous for its numerous fox spirits (Kitsune), which are believed to be the messengers of the god Inari Okami. The shrine's complex is said to have a high concentration of Kitsune statues and shrines dedicated to these mythical creatures.
Historical note
The shrine was originally established in 1869 during the Meiji period, when it was re-established to honor Sugawara no Michizane, a notable Shinto priest who played a significant role in the unification of Japan.
