Cultural notes

As one of Japan's 'Three Fuji Shrines,' Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine is said to be the most direct route to Mount Fuji, with many pilgrims believing that a visit here will grant them good luck and a safe passage on their journey. The shrine also celebrates the annual 'Fuji Pilgrimage' festival in September, which commemorates the sacred mountain's importance.

Historical note

The shrine was originally built in 1452 by the Arakura family, who were known for their loyalty to the Tokugawa shogunate.
