Akatsuka Suwa Shrine, located in the city of Sakado, Saitama Prefecture, is one of Japan's oldest shrines, with a history dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE). The shrine was dedicated to the kami, Suwa no Okami, the deity associated with the Milky Way and agriculture.
