The shrine's current structure dates back to 1628, although it has undergone renovations over the centuries. As one of the most famous shrines in Chiba Prefecture, Yakumo Shrine is often visited by locals and tourists alike. According to local legend, the shrine was established on the site where a sacred tree stood tall, said to be inhabited by the spirit of Yamatano-okami.
