The shrine is dedicated to Tenji, the god of learning and literature, also known as Sonno-no-Okami, who is believed to be the patron deity of scholars and artists. The shrine is known for its beautiful architecture and traditional festivals, which include the Tenjimatsuri festival held annually in July.
