Worshippers come to pray for academic success, intellectual growth, and protection from scholarly setbacks, believing that Michizane's spirit, transformed into the kami Tenjin, will bless their educational endeavors. The shrine is particularly busy during exam seasons when students offer ema (wooden prayer plaques) inscribed with their academic hopes and visit to receive the deity's guidance in their pursuit of knowledge.
