Suwa Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the same name, believed to be the god of agriculture and fertility in the region of Echigo (now Niigata Prefecture). The shrine was originally located in the Yamato Province, but its current location in Miyagi Prefecture dates back to the 7th century. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical connection to the imperial court, with a hall built during the Heian period. Visitors can still see the remains of this ancient structure. Suwa Shrine is also known for its unique torii gate adorned with vermilion lacquer, which was added in the Edo period.
