Sumiyoshi Jinja, located in Chiba Prefecture, is one of Japan's oldest and most revered Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the sea-god Susanoo, it is situated on a small island off the coast of Tokyo Bay, reflecting its importance as a protector of navigation and maritime trade. The shrine complex includes a main hall dedicated to Susanoo, as well as several smaller shrines for other deities associated with the sea.
