Located in the town of Sashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, Shingu-mae Inari Taisha is one of Japan's oldest and most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari Okami, the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. Shingu-mae Inari Taisha is famous for its unique ' gate of heaven' structure and its association with the mythological tale of the white bird that led Otohime, a princess from the underwater kingdom of Ryujin, to the mortal world. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in October called the 'Inari Matsuri,' which features traditional dances, music, and offerings.
