光松八幡神社

Ishikawa

Lighting of the lanterns is a traditional event held at Lightup Matsuo Shrine to commemorate the death anniversary of Shinsuke Morisue, but it is also associated with Hachiman Okami and the 8th century deity, Ōkuniichi. The shrine is famous for its light-up festival in December.

For the best view of the shrine's light-up display, head to the hill at the back of the shrine and take a moment to appreciate the surrounding area which has been preserved well from old times.

文化的背景

While primarily associated with Hachiman Okami, this shrine also honors Ōkuniichi, an eighth-century deity said to be involved in the creation of the Yamato dynasty. Lightup Matsuo Shrine is a significant site for both festivals and a place to visit during winter months.

Founded in 734 as a branch of the Matsuo Shrine in Fukui Prefecture.
