Located in Hyogo Prefecture, Shirasagi no Hikina Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the pine tree and the god of war, Hyakuronji, whose name literally means 'a thousand pine trees'. The shrine was originally built as a Buddhist temple but later converted into a Shinto shrine during the Edo period. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical conversion, with a wooden torii gate and a traditional Shinto-style main hall.

文化的背景

Hyakuronji is often associated with the samurai class and was believed to protect warriors on the battlefield. The shrine is also connected to the legend of a samurai who made a vow to his god, Hyakuronji, before going into battle, in which he promised to return if he survived.

歴史

The shrine was rebuilt in its current form in 1871 after being destroyed during the Meiji Restoration.
