Miyagi

Located in the town of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, Hachimantai Eight Hagoromo Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and protector of the emperor. The shrine's main hall was rebuilt after the devastating 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. According to legend, Hachiman appeared at this site in the 8th century as the 'Eight Deities' who descended from the heavens. The shrine is famous for its impressive torii gate made of reclaimed wood, which is said to be able to withstand any storm.
