Tokushima

Located in the heart of Tokushima City, 素盞雄神社 is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, patron deity of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance as a major stop on the ancient trade route connecting Tokyo with the Kii Peninsula. Built in 1633 during the Edo period, the shrine's main hall, called the hon-do, is adorned with vermilion paint and features a unique roof design characteristic of Tokushima's architectural style. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include a large torii gate and several smaller shrines dedicated to local deities.
