華山大権現

Miyagi

Located in the picturesque town of Kesennuma, in the heart of Miyagi Prefecture, Higashiyama Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god of the mountain, Mt. Zao, and the storm god Susanoo. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period's (794-1185 CE) influence with its curved roofs and ornate wooden decorations. As one of Japan's 36 most sacred Shinto shrines, Higashiyama Shrine is particularly revered during the summer months when the peak of Mt. Zao can be seen from the shrine's grounds.
