The new Shimoji Shrine in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture is one of Japan's most famous and historic Shinto shrines dedicated to the deity of fertility, storms, and prosperity, Inari Okami. It is believed to be a remnant of the ancient Izumo Taisha shrine, established during the Heian period (794-1185). The shrine complex includes the main shrine hall, two smaller shrines, and several other buildings. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, including its famous vermilion torii gate, and take part in traditional festivals such as the Setsubun festival to celebrate the arrival of spring.
