上里大山神社

Located in the heart of Hokkaido, above a natural hot spring called 'mizu no ike', upper mountain shrine is Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman and Tsunegi-no-Okami, patron kami of fishermen. The shrine's current structure dates back to 1887, but it claims connections with an ancient temple founded in the Heian period (794 CE). Upper mountain shrine has maintained strong ties to its local community, providing blessings for agriculture and a safe passage for travelers.
