Located in the city of Kanazawa, Eight Horses Temple Shrine, or Hachiman-gu, is one of Japan's oldest and most revered Shinto shrines dedicated to the god Hachiman, patron deity of warriors, justice, and good governance. The shrine was originally built in 744 AD by Emperor Shomu, who is said to have been inspired by a vision from his son to build a temple in honor of Hachiman.
