Tanabata Festival is celebrated at Ogasawara Shrine, but the most notable festival of this shrine, Tanegashima Shrine's counterpart, is Tanegashimaharitsuki no Matsuri which has been held annually on April 15th since 1958 to commemorate a local legend about a girl who was buried alive. The shrine also holds a spring festival called 'Tanegashimaharitsuki no Matsuri' on May 3rd, and an autumn festival called ' Tanegashima Matsuri' in November. These festivals celebrate the connection between nature and human life.
