Located in the Saga Prefecture, Eight Heavenly Deities Shrine (Hachi-ryu no Kami) is one of Japan's oldest Shinto shrines, dating back to the 7th century. The shrine was originally dedicated to the eight heavenly deities known as the 'Eight Immortals' from Chinese Buddhism, which were believed to reside in heaven. Over time, it came to be associated with local kami and became a major center of Shinto worship.
