八幡神社

Ishikawa

Located in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Eight-Horsed Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to Fujin Okami, the god of wind and storms. This shrine is famous for its beautiful garden, which features a stunning rock garden surrounded by a moat. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period, with a wooden gate and traditional Japanese buildings. Despite being built during the Kamakura period, it was rebuilt after World War II in 1961.

文化的背景

Eight-Horsed Shrine is closely associated with the legendary Japanese hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who was said to have performed a ritual purification ceremony at the shrine in 1185. The shrine's architecture and garden design are also influenced by Zen Buddhism.

The current structure of the shrine dates back to 1949, following its reconstruction in 1961.
