稲荷神社 社殿

神奈川県 · 小田原市

The Sensō-ji temple in Tokyo's Asakusa district is not located here, but I found a different Shrine with a similar name - 稲荷神社 (Inari shrine) in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. This Inari shrine is one of the most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari Ōkami, the Shinto god of rice, fertility, and prosperity.

参拝のヒント

To avoid long lines, visit during less busy times like early morning or late afternoon. Bring a snack to share with the friendly Inari-Okami.

文化的背景

This shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates forming a tunnel up the mountain, symbolizing the pathway to enlightenment. During New Year's (Oshogatsu), families often visit this shrine to pray for good luck and prosperity in the coming year. Inari shrine is also famous for its many fox spirits, known as kitsune, believed to be messengers of Inari.

歴史

The current shrine was rebuilt in 1934 after being destroyed by fire in 1923.
