Ancient ancient forest, Shiroishi, near the village of Shiroishi, has a long history dating back to the 9th century when it was built by Emperor Seiwa as a royal retreat. The shrine is renowned for its majestic maple trees which have been designated as a national treasure and are especially celebrated during the autumn foliage season.
