古四王神社

Akita

Kojidai no mikoto no miyabuchi, Kurodani-ji, Akita, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the Four Heavenly Kings, ancient deities believed to protect the emperor and his family. The shrine's main building was constructed in the late Heian period, around 1000 CE, with later expansions during the Edo period.

文化的背景

As a symbol of protection and divine power, the Four Heavenly Kings are often depicted with swords and shields. In Akita Prefecture, this shrine is also associated with the local legend of Kajikawa-no-Okami, who is said to have protected the emperor's ancestors from evil spirits.
