To fully appreciate the shrine's tranquility, consider visiting during cherry blossom season (March-April) or autumn foliage (November-December), when the surrounding forest is ablaze with color.

文化的背景

Hachiman is often associated with the legend of the 'Fifty-three Stations' of the Tōkaidō highway, which connected Edo to Kyoto. The shrine's torii gate at Eight Bridges was said to be built on a site where Hachiman once rested during his journey.

歴史

The shrine was founded in 1595 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, who built it to honor Hachiman's role in his victory over the Western Army at Mikatagahara.
