The five-storey gate, 'goshintora', of Five-Story Gate Shrine in Akita Prefecture is one of the most iconic landmarks and represents a common feature in Shinto architecture from the Heian period onwards. The shrine is dedicated to five deities: Yamatsumi-no-Kami, Okuninushi-no-Kami, Izanagi-no-Kami, Takamagitatsu-no-Kami and Katsurahime no okami.
