加茂神社

Shiga

加茂神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. It is one of Japan's oldest shrines and was originally dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Over time, it has also come to be associated with the kami Kamosa, a god of prosperity and good fortune. Visitors can walk through the beautiful gardens and admire the traditional torii gate, which dates back to 1658. The shrine is particularly famous for its beautiful autumn foliage.

歴史

The shrine was originally built in 718 CE during the Nara period as the Imperial Capital's shrine, but it has undergone numerous renovations and expansions throughout Japanese history.
