厳島神社 is a Shinto shrine located on the island of Shikoku, which separates Honshu from Shikoku, and serves as a sacred site marking the boundary between the two islands. 厳島神社 has historical significance as the site where Emperor Kanmu prayed for a successful campaign against the Emishi tribe in the northern part of Honshu. The shrine also features a statue of the god Oinaginoomi no Kami, which is said to have been built during the Edo period.

The shrine was founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE) by Emperor Kanmu as a result of his journey with his troops through the region in search of new resources.
