Katsuragi-dera is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Katsuragi, Shiga Prefecture. Dedicated to the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the shrine is famous for its massive golden statue of the deity, known as the 'Golden Kannon.' The shrine's history dates back to 749 CE, when it was originally a small Shinto shrine dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto. Over time, Buddhist elements were incorporated into the shrine, resulting in its unique blend of Shinto and Buddhist traditions.
