Located in the heart of Takamatsu City, Shitennō-ji Temple is one of Japan's oldest and most revered Buddhist temples. The temple was founded in 593 by Emperor Bidatsu and Prince Nago in order to pacify the local population after a devastating earthquake. Over time, the temple has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, earning it its current name which translates to 'Ten-Empire Temple'. Despite being primarily Buddhist, Shitennō-ji Temple also enshrines several deities from the Shinto pantheon, including the god of good fortune and prosperity, Ryūjin.
