Located in the picturesque town of Katsuura, Chanko Jinja is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god Hachiman, patron deity of travelers and messengers. Built during the Nara period (710-794 CE), the shrine boasts a traditional Japanese architectural style featuring a square tower and a large, wooden gate known as 'fusen'. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include several historical landmarks such as the 'kaminari-gi' thunder god hall and the 'sakaneyagusa' cherry blossom tree. In the spring, the shrine is adorned with vibrant pink blossoms, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
