Located in the scenic Yamagata Prefecture, Ryotōmon-jinja Shrine is dedicated to Ryūjin-gami, the Shinto god of the sea and storms. 文化的背景

Ryūjin-gami is also associated with the myth of Ryōmyō, a legendary fisherman who rode on the back of a sea dragon to save his village from a typhoon. The shrine's torii gate is said to be the spot where Ryōmyō first caught sight of the god.

歴史

The shrine was originally built in 1653 as a humble forest shrine but gained prominence after being designated as an official Shinto shrine in 1871.
