Miyagi

Located in the scenic Shimokita Peninsula of Miyagi Prefecture, Ōgata-koji Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto kami Ōgata no Okami, a storm god associated with navigation and safety at sea. Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), this shrine was originally built in 1719 as a local shrine for the region's fishermen. Its architecture reflects the traditional style of a 'miyabi-zukuri,' featuring a large torii gate and a rectangular main hall with a tiled roof. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include a beautiful garden and a scenic lookout point offering stunning views of the surrounding coastline.
