Located in the city of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Eight Horseshoe Shrine is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the sea god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, it is said that Susanoo threw a horseshoe into the ocean as a gift for the local goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's main hall was rebuilt in 1633 during the Edo period and features a distinctive tiled roof with eight horizontal rows of tiles. Visitors can participate in rituals to pray for good luck, safe passage at sea, and prosperity.
