池宮神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the Omaezaki city of Shizuoka prefecture, and its name translates to 'Temple Pond Shrine' or 'Shrine of the Temple Pond'. The shrine is dedicated to the kami, Ryūjin, who is the Shinto god of the sea. According to legend, a fisherman prayed to Ryūjin for safe passage when caught in a typhoon, and as a reward, Ryūjin sent a magical fish that could grant eternal youth. In honor of this story, fishermen from Omaezaki still participate in an annual festival where they pray to Ryūjin for a bountiful catch. The shrine's architecture reflects the region's unique blend of Edo-era and early modern influences.
